Exide Technologies Process Scientist in Milton, Georgia


The Process Scientist will be part of the Americas R&D team which is responsible for the development of materials and processes for the manufacture of energy storage devices and associated equipment. This position will provide expertise in improving/developing processes (e.g. powder synthesis, paste making, pasting/printing, thermal curing, formation, and other advanced manufacturing processes) that are integral to Exide’s technology with a goal to improve material handling, process monitoring and control, yield and reduce material waste, scrap, cost and complexity.


The Process Scientist will:

  • Be a Subject Matter expert in unit operations central to the manufacture of lead acid batteries,

  • Provide technical leadership in process technology

  • Critically review existing manufacturing processes and identify areas of improvement/upgradation

  • Investigate, develop and deploy advancements in manufacturing and process technology

  • Interface with plant operations, equipment engineering, process engineering, materials development focused R&D and engineering product development teams to drive competitive advantage through process technology related developments and improvements

  • Be an integral and key member of teams constituted to execute/implement process technology developments/improvements

  • Evaluate new product needs and develop process technology roadmaps

  • Leverage and scale approaches in the external innovation space as appropriate

  • Be focused on Intellectual Property development

  • Ensure proper documentation of technical information for assigned projects consistent with policies and procedures

  • Participate in interdisciplinary teams

  • Mentor and manage R&D technicians



  • Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering


  • Doctoral Degree in Chemical Engineering

  • Experience in chemical/ metallurgical process technology development

  • Prior experience with powder processing, paste making, screen printing/pasting/coating, thermal processing and materials characterization

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of relevant scientific fundamentals, technical acumen, conceptual capability and problem solving skills

  • Desire and ability to think originally and outside the box

  • Conviction of thought to experiment and formulate strategies to address technical issues

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to effectively articulate ideas and tailor communication to the audience

  • Safety focused

  • Six Sigma Green/Black Belt Certification or equivalent training


  • Some occasional travel (up to 20%) may be required

  • Position is located in Milton, GA
