Exide Technologies Process Development Engineer in Milton, Georgia


The Process Development Engineer is a high impact position for Exide’s business. This role drives process enhancement and innovation for the North American industrial and transportation business. This person will creatively develop solutions around both business goals and process goals. These targets include improving business profitability, ensuring strategic alignment, improving product quality, operational simplification, and improved equipment utilization. This position works within the corporate process development group in Milton, GA. The person that will succeed in this position must be self-motivated, technically savvy, creative, a fast learner and an excellent communicator.


Essential duties include the following; other duties may be assigned.

  • Design and development of manufacturing processes in coordination with the introduction of new or improved product designs, improved manufacturing methods, product components and materials.

  • Leading cross functional teams to drive capital project conceptualization, development, business case creation and project planning to meet the business goals.

  • Support process implementation including issuing initial process specifications, completing process failure mode and effects analysis, evaluating work instructions and managing the initial onsite process validation.


The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

Education, Experience, Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field is required.

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or Business Administration is preferred.

  • Required 3+ year’s industrial experience in battery manufacturing or industrial environment.

Communication Skills :

  • Must have the aptitude to read and write documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

  • Must be capable of clearly presenting complex subjects and/or business cases to the executive leadership team.

  • Must be able to translate business needs to manufacturing targets and gather alignment towards achieving them.

Project Management :

  • Project Scoping & Business Case Development – Ability to convert business objectives to a fully defined project, create project teams and create business case estimates (Estimate expected profitability, implementation time, and risk).

  • Planning & Organizing – Generate and execute project plans, and Gantt charts. Managing schedules, objectives, resources and budgets in a cross functional environment. Execute concurrent engineering techniques.

  • Task and Target Prioritization – Determine critical path items, mitigate project risks, develop project team priorities.

PC Software Knowledge :

  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Windows based programs, including word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation programs.

  • Preferred skills in at a minimum of one of programing language such as: MATLAB, VBA, Python, SQL, Ladder Logic.

Work Environment :

Normal office and laboratory environment. Plant and field work on a routine basis, where there is potential for exposure to lead, acid fumes, dirt and noise. (Personal protective equipment and supplies are required and provided.) .

Travel, additional requirements:

Travel is required will typically be 20%-40% for most of a given project, however travel may exceed 60% during the implementation phase (Typically 1-2months) of a project.
