Exide Technologies Quality Supervisor in Manchester, Iowa

Overview

Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Quality Laboratory, ensuring adherence to the Manchester Quality Plan and all applicable laboratory standards.

Provide technical support to all plant personnel as required while maintaining incoming, in-process, and outgoing quality testing. Interprets quality laboratory standards, troubleshoot quality laboratory problems, and provide prompt corrective action to rectify quality issues in the laboratory. Supervisor will work within established policies, procedures, practices and regulations.

Responsibilities

Performs and oversees electrical, chemical or product testing and analyses in the Quality Laboratory as specified and required in engineering or quality specifications and furnishes the appropriate reports documenting the results.

Assists in calibration and performs routine maintenance of all laboratory measuring and test equipment.

Provides day-to-day quality laboratory technical support to manufacturing and quality control in the form of electrical, chemical or product testing and analyses on product.

Performs and oversees teardown/reject analysis as directed by the Quality Manager and recommends corrective action as necessary. Performs special inspection functions as requested by the Quality Manager.

Supervises all quality laboratory personnel, including the daily coordination of manpower to ensure that both immediate and long-range goals are met.

Provide feedback on quality laboratory concerns in the form of action plan reports capable of establishing permanent corrective action.

Develops, interprets, implements, and maintains clear and concise quality laboratory standards.

Performs training for new Lab Technicians and Quality Auditors (in lab procedures) as needed.

Performs other miscellaneous duties inherent to the job.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises QA Auditors and Lab Technicians. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training of employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluation performance and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position must maintain relationships with all employees as well as corporate and other Exide facility personnel. A working relationship must be maintained with outside auditors as well as customers, contractors, and other plat visitors.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma and a laboratory background are required. A post high school chemistry education is preferred. Previous Quality Lab experience is preferred and previous battery experience in Quality is a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze and interpret specifications, instructions, procedures, manuals, and routine business correspondence. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to write reports, articles and routine business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to employees & management. Ability to communicate effectively with customers to resolve quality laboratory issues.

COMPUTER/EQUIPMENT SKILLS:

Must have good knowledge of computer systems as well as programs and software required to complete and document the basic functions of this position. Ability to use various types of laboratory testing equipment and machinery, small band tools and numerous types of powered equipment and control panels.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs). Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical demands include hearing, speaking, seeing, writing, standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting of 60#, simple grasping, pulling, pushing, twisting, repetitive use of hands.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, acid fumes or airborne lead particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
