Exide Technologies Principal Process Engineer - Metal Forming in Kansas City, Missouri

Exide Technologies is hiring a Metal Forming Engineer for our state of the art, cutting edge, 2-year old plant in Kansas City, MO. No place in the United States runs punches lead at our speed. Your expertise will ensure the plant produces the grids that go into the batteries our customers depend upon across the country. The role is highly visible and impacts the plant manager as well as Vice Presidents of Operations, Engineering and Quality. You thrive on this kind of responsibility and take pride knowing the impact you’ll have in this position.

The plant is located close to the airport and within the suburbs of Kansas City, so you won’t have to worry about commuting to the downtown area. Reporting to the Process Engineering Director, you are the subject matter expert (SME) and will share knowledge and support the 45 employees in operations. At this facility, you are a big fish in a small pond but part of large company with more than 8,000 employees across the globe.

  • Create standards for metal forming specifically rolling and punching

  • SME for this facilities and will be a go-to person

  • Determine the future development objectives for process improvement for metal forming for Exide

  • Understand the process at KCMO and the roles of people

  • Grow knowledge of facility and documentation of facility.

  • Ability to handle lead, the metal forming with lead.

  • Take ownership of overall process

  • Improve uptime targets via the process improvements

  • Increase production speed at the current quality requirements and uptime

  • Isolate critical data outputs of the process and create dashboards which indicate process performance

  • Complete finite element analysis (FEA)

  • Ability to foster strong relationship with members of the operations team

  • Able to work at all levels across the organization

  • Ability to grow your knowledge


  • BS Or Greater in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy.

  • 3-5 years of direct experience in roll mill operations, with a track record of driving operational excellence

  • You know that teamwork is key to success and have demonstrated examples where you either led or played an important role

  • You see yourself as a player/coach, willing and able to give direction, and willing and able to roll up your sleeves when needed

  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and database software, have helped you track, analyze, form conclusions and communicate a message throughout your career

  • Six sigma certification is a strong plus, and should you be selected for the role without this certification, Exide will sponsor and pay for your training/certification

About the work environment:

  • You will work in both office and manufacturing environments. Battery manufacturing employs chemicals, heat and heavy equipment, and as such you will at times be exposed to lead, fumes, noise, dirt, hazards, and chemicals, and in all cases will be provided with appropriate PPE.

  • You must be able to see, hear and speak; able to sit, stand for at least two hours at a time, sit, bend, crawl, squat, kneel and climb able to use both arms and hands to use a computer and peripherals and lift 40 pounds from floor level, able to work below ground level in confined spaces and on stationary or mobile elevated platforms, able to wear respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, able to climb stairs.

  • Travel may be required for training and to other company sanctioned events.
