Exide Technologies Human Resources Manager - Manufacturing Plant in Columbus, Georgia


Previous experience working in a manufacturing plant is required.

As a key member of the Plant Management Team, the Human Resources Manager will be responsible for Employee Relations, Employee Engagement, Workforce Planning, Performance Management, Training and Development, and the creation & administration of HR policies, procedures and processes in partnership with Division and Corporate HR leadership. This position is 60% strategic/forward-thinking, 35% administrative and 5% misc; requires skills beyond administration/managing existing programs.

This role will lead the HR Transformation for the site. This will include:

  • Creating policies and procedures where they do not exist or don’t align with the overall business strategy, consistent with policies and procedures at other plant locations

  • Developing and executing an Employee Engagement Strategy

  • Building credibility and partnerships with employees of all levels of the plant

  • Being visible, developing rapport and understanding of the plants business model

  • Structuring the HR function for success

  • Developing a strong Workforce Planning Model

  • Develops and administers various human resources plan and procedures for plant personnel i.e. Job Selection Process, Engagement strategies to implement across the site.

  • Advocates positive employee relations and employee engagement by visiting the plant floor daily and understanding our employees

  • Focus on developing a positive culture of continuous improvement and a union-free work environment.

  • Coaches plant staff to assure consistent application of policies, rules, and guidelines.

  • Plans, organizes and controls all activities of the department. Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems.

  • Responsible for ensuring employee information in the company’s HRIS is accurate. Maintains local organizational charts and employee directory.

  • Manages the hourly employee annual wage and benefit review process for the plant. Makes recommendations on changes to job classifications and wage rates employee benefits to promote plant efficiency and remain competitive in the local labor market.

  • Develops, recommends and implements local HR guidelines procedures with approval from Division/Corporate HR and Plant Leadership. Roll out of HR Corporate guidelines to employees at plant location.

  • In Partnership with Corporate Staffing Department, coordinates recruitment effort for all salaried exempt, nonexempt, skilled/craft workers, and temporary workers as needed; works with supervisors to screen and interview candidates; conducts new-employee orientations and conducts exit interviews.

  • Responsible for conducting confidential investigations regarding employee relations concerns, complaints. Seeks guidance as needed from Division/Corporate Human Resources on risks, resolution and actions.

  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws. Demonstrates prudent judgment when making important decisions by utilizing knowledge of industry best practices and current trends. Works with diverse stakeholders and builds strong, collaborative relationships. Manages competing agendas and priorities across different functional departments.

  • Partner with plant leadership on workforce planning and actions necessary to ensure good organizational structure and proper staffing levels.

Education, Experience, Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or related field preferred

  • 7+ years previous experience in human resource management, employee relations, performance management, worker’s compensation, FMLA, employment law, planning and project management; 3+ years’ experience in a leadership position.

  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing plant is required.
